Winter Park, Freedom have to call it off

Winter Park and Freedom took the field for warmups but never got to play their spring game at Showalter Field Wednesday night.

Mount Dora and West Orange did play in Winter Garden, with the visiting Hurricanes scoring a 16-7 victory.

A thunderstorm rolled in just before game time at Showalter, forcing cancellation. The Freedom-Winter Park game will not be rescheduled.

"So frustrating," Tim Shifflett, Winter Park's coach, said afterward. "You practice for four weeks, you want to play. The kids certainly want to play."
