Written by Jim Nasella

JACKSONVILLE — Stephen Barnett scored on runs of 44 and 67 yards to highlight a 34-point second quarter as Bolles dismantled South Sumter 57-7 in a Class 2A, Region 2 final Friday night.

After building a 10-0 first-quarter lead, the Bulldogs (12-0) scored three touchdowns in the first 3 minutes, 2 seconds of the quarter as Jordan Garside ran 13 yards, Barnett had his 44-yarder and Jawan Jamison added a 38-yard run.

Barnett, who had 183 yards rushing — 176 in the first half — scored from 67 yards with 6:44 to play in the first half, and that was followed by a 67-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Chandler Carr to Jacob Stenson.

In between the runaway, South Sumter (10-2) quarterback Denzel Smith managed a 6-yard run for the Raiders’ only score. Smith completed 6 of 15 passes for 98 yards and three interceptions, all by Bolles’ Matt Barnes.

A fourth interception by Josh Hood that went for a touchdown was called back by a personal foul against the Bulldogs.

Cashon Irving led South Sumter with 33 yards rushing.

"That is the block that is in the way if we want to go to a state championship, and we’ve known it for years,’’ Raiders Coach Inman Sherman said.

Bolles, which has not lost a home game since 2000, has outscored opponents 127-13 in eight playoff quarters. The Raiders were ranked seventh in the Sentinel Super 16.

Bolles avenged a 19-10 region loss to South Sumter last year and will face Madison County or Pensacola Catholic next week.
