Mount Dora football player Micha Howard, who was named to the Florida Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State second team as a defensive back last fall, has committed to Averett University in Danville, Va., and is expected to sign next week.
Howard (5-10/170) was a two-way starter for Mount Dora, rushing for more that 1,217 yards and had 63 tackles for the Hurricanes. He also was named to the second team defensive unity of the Orlando Sentinel's All-Central Florida team.
He will be playing at the running back position in college, said Shawn Howard, Micha's father.
"He really wanted to play running back in college," Shawn Howard said. "That is what he has been playing since he started playing football."
Shawn Howard said the paperwork arrived from Averett on Tuesday afternoon and that his son could sign with by the end of the week.
