Lake Highland jumped out to a quick start in the spring game against Berkeley Prep. On the fourth play of the game Lake Highland's eighth grade RB BJ Simpson took the hand off to the right, reversed field and out ran the defense for a 59 yard touchdown run. After a three and out by Lake Highland's defense the Highlanders took over on Berkeley Prep's 47 yard line. On the first play QB Bobby Borcky ran the option play to perfection. After a fake to the fullback, Borcky got outside the defense to the left, cut back all the way across the field to the right and scampered 47 yards to give the Highlanders a quick 14-0 lead.
The Highlanders defense would take over from there. They limited the Bucs to just 61 yards of offense in the first half. They picked off QB Destin Nichols twice and held them to two first downs in the first half. LB Jason Root had a great game for the Highlanders. He had over ten tackles and an interception. Eighth grader Mike Dorcely had the other interception for the Highlanders. In the shut out win the defense held the Bucs to just 120 total yards for the night. Penalties plaqued the Highlanders after the first two opening drives. They wouldn't score again until early in the fourth quarter. After a procedure penalty on the one yard line backed them up they had to settle for a 20 yard field goal by Michael Rassmusen that gave the Highlanders their final score of the night. Borcky, a Colorado State commit, finished the night with ten carries for 117 yards and he threw for 120 yards on 10 of 17 passing. A pair of rising ninth graders, Simpson and Dorcely, combined for a total of 128 yards. Tyler Kirkland led the Highlanders in receiving with three catches for 63 yards.
